2D-BioPAD was featured at the international conference “Wine and Olive Oil in the Mediterranean”, held in Ancient Olympia, Greece, June 4–6, 2026, which brought together around 200 participants from academia, research, and industry.
During the conference, our partner Magda Tsolaki from Alzheimer Hellas, presented the talk “The Effects of Olive Tree Products on Alzheimer’s Disease”, highlighting the growing evidence supporting the role of olive-derived products in cognitive health and dementia prevention.
The presentation reviewed clinical studies investigating the effects of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), olive leaf extracts, and concentrated olive polyphenols on patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Findings from multiple clinical studies suggest that the bioactive compounds found in olive tree products-including oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol, and other polyphenols-may exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects.
Prof. Tsolaki also presented ongoing and recently completed randomized clinical trials involving hundreds of participants with cognitive disorders, further exploring the potential of olive tree products as complementary approaches for supporting brain health and healthy ageing.
The presentation contributed to the scientific discussion on natural interventions for neurodegenerative diseases and the potential of Mediterranean dietary components in dementia research.
