The 2D-BioPAD project was featured in Horizon, the EU Research and Innovation Magazine, in an article titled “A simple blood test could change how Alzheimer’s is diagnosed.” The project coordinator, Aristeidis Bakandritsos, was interviewed for the article.

The feature highlights the significant impact of Alzheimer’s disease, the limitations of current diagnostic approaches, and the urgent need for earlier and more accessible detection methods. It explains the motivation behind the 2D-BioPAD project and its central objective: the development of an easy-to-use decision support tool that enables the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease through a simple blood test.

The article presents the innovative concept of a minimally invasive blood-based test, outlines our project, and compares this new approach with existing invasive and costly diagnostic methods. It also discusses the growing importance of early diagnosis in light of emerging treatments, describes the advanced technology underpinning the test, including the use of graphene, and explores how such testing could be integrated into routine, affordable healthcare systems.
